AS a way of giving back and as a token of appreciation to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni whose benevolence enabled hundreds of bright but needy youth to acquire decent education have pledged to continue offering complimentary health services to citizens through free medical camps.
The latest beneficiaries numbering 6,548 patients who turned up along other Ugandans to appreciate the contributions of President Yoweri Museveni in a ceremony held at Kololo Independence Celebrations Grounds on 5th July, 2024.
According to Dr Samuel Oledo Odongo, the head medical team, during the celebrations, 3,367 male patients were attended to while the number of females was 3,181.
On the same day, Dr Samuel Oledo Odongo, alongside his deputy Eng Cephas Okumu, mobilized 296 specialist doctors, nurses, and paramedics who gave various services to the people who turned up.
Among the services offered included free dental care (extraction, root canal and scaling),free ophthalmology services, free general medical services, free screening(prostrate, breast and cervical cancer screening), general laboratory screening (infectious, viral, tuberculosis, diabetes and neurological illnesses)and blood donation for emergency care in emergency obstetrics, HIV/AIDS voluntary counseling and testing, among others.
To illustrate their practical appreciation, there were 2,567 doctors and engineers who studied under State House scholarship sponsorship who joined the rest of Ugandans to appreciate the achievements of NRM and President Museveni.
“…all of us would not be having the professional skills as doctors and engineers, if President Museveni did not have the parental heart to identify and support our education, so the best way to appreciate him is to be patriotic and help citizens…”,Dr Samuel Oledo Odongo said.
Quoting Sir Churchill Winston’s saying that healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have, Dr Samuel Oledo Odongo who is also eyeing the juicy position of First National Vice chairman says citizens can only participate in meaningful activities when they are healthy.
He says the government has initiated and rolled out many socio-economic anti-poverty campaign programmes like Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Emyooga and Parish Development Model (PDM), among others which can go waste when the disease burden is overwhelming.
It’s worth noting that the same group has conducted regional medical camps in all parts of the country like West Nile, Acholi, Lango, Teso, Karamoja, Elgon, and western Uganda where people are still yearning for more.
Dr Samuel Oledo Odongo says they are now heading to the regions to celebrate the NRM historicals as the team continues to extend free medical services to Ugandans as well as celebrating President Yoweri Museveni’s achievements.
