Ever since the First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni came out to say government has no money provide free sanitary pads for the girl child, a number of mixed reactions have been going around among the general public.
Notably, a Makerere University Researcher Dr. Stella Nyanzi came out to challenge the government over its weakness and she kick started a nationwide fundraising campaign to secure pads for the needy girls.
The controversial researcher managed to register some success and apparently is still mobilizing the nation to contribute towards the cause.
However, the former presidential candidate, Maureen Kyalya sees the whole sanitary pads scenario in another angle.
Kyalya does not side with most of the people who are advocating for the sanitary pad campaign. She feels that asking for free sanitary pads is a form of embarrassing Ugandan women internationally.
She urges women that instead of buying food, they should use that money to buy pads.
According to her, our grandparents had periods too without sanitary pads but they managed.
“You find a woman bleeding without pads buy her a roll of toilet paper for heaven’s sake or two brown face towels they can reuse,” She said.
“Give us a break women blood has no business in the public domain,” Kyalya added.
