Court has convicted the former DPC of Old Kampala Joram Mwesigye in a case that has dragged for two years.
Court said on Friday that Mwesigye was guilty of assaulting but innocent on the account of malicious damage.
Earlier in the day, Lwanga supporters offered their support online using #IStandwithLwanga harshtag.
Journalists defender Robert Sempala said, “Impunity must be fought at all times. Journalists must be protected to do their work.”
However, it will be remembered that Buganda Road Magistrates Court delivered its judgment on Friday 10th March, 2017 on a man who caused disability to fellow man, and thus destroyed his dream life.
Journalist Andrew Lwanga was assaulted on 12th January 2015 by Joram Mwesigye the then District Police Commander of Old Kampala Police Station along Namirembe Road.
Lwanga has been bedridden eversince and among well wishers who have supported him is President Museveni who offered his treatment fees abroad.
On judgement day, Court filled to its fullest ahead of the delivery of a judgement.
Mwesigye was being accused of assault and malicious damage to property against journalists Andrew Lwanga of the defunct WBS TV and Joseph Ssetimba of Bukedde TV when they were covering a story of a peaceful demonstration by the unemployed youths who wanted to deliver a letter to the police chief seeking for permission to hold rallies in Uganda.
