The Mayor of Jinja municipality, Majid Batambuze, has urged members of the town’s new land board to scrutinise all the land titles in the municipality with a view of cancelling the fake ones that were issued to the locals illegally.
However, the mayor’s declaration has sparked controversy in the council as some members, who have been accused of land-grabbing have vowed to fight the land title verification exercise.
They say it is simply a pretext to take land away from some people who bought their plots legally.
