Leaders in Alebtong have been advised to properly utilize the funds meant to benefit Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the district.
The humble plea was made by Dorcus Auma, the Alebtong Community Development Officer during a meeting with the 16 PWD group heads on Thursday.
The meeting was based on emphasis on how to properly utilize the money sent from the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development to improve the livelihoods of Persons With Disabilities Alebtong.
Ms Auma confirmed that government through the Gender Ministry sent Shs80 million to the district and the fund is supposed to be distributed among the 16 PWD groups in the district.
Alebtong LC5 Councilor for the Disability Grace Atim called for cooperation and total transparency among the group leaders. She also urged the group members to utilize the money well so as to achieve the sole purpose of developing themselves.
On her part, the Alebtong Community Development Officer-Disability, Susan Acen promised to offer guidance where need be before confirming that there’s already a technical supervision and management board that will ensure proper results are achieved.
Stephen Odongo, the Alebtong Deputy Resident District Commissioner thanked government for making a huge contribution towards the wellbeing of PWDs in the district.
“The government recognizes the PWDs and has played a tremendous role in improving their lives in Alebtong and the country at large,” Mr Odongo noted.
He further emphasized cooperation and effective communication as tools for PWD group members to achieve their goals.
Mr Odongo also thanked President Yoweri Museveni for being a visionary leader who cares and positively thinks well for all Ugandans.
“Government has many poverty alleviation programs which are aimed at helping Ugandans to improve their livelihoods. Please embrace them for a better Uganda.”
