The commanding officer of Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) in Labwordwong barracks in Agago district has blamed the local leaders of sub-counties for their failure to mitigate invasions by the Karimojong rustlers.
The Labwordwong barracks commanding officer, Major Samuel Namanya, while speaking during a security meeting on 20th April, 2022, said that some sub-county chairpersons are misleading the forces by giving wrong information regarding deployment.
“We always receive different instructions either from the sub-county chairpersons, or Gombolola internal security officer and sub-county chiefs among others about the location of the cattle rustlers, and in turn, our forces are misled,” Maj. Namanya added.
Agago district security officer, Jacob Amooti, urged the sub-county leaders to desist from giving deployment instructions and reminded them that their work is not to deploy, but rather only to inform the responsible persons like the resident district commissioner, or the district security officer who will, in turn, inform the other officers to give deployments instructions.
Meanwhile, the Agago Resident District Commissioner, Emmanuel Okot, urged the locals to desist from taking laws into their while handling Karimojong who are in the community.
“There are Karimojong who are not cattle rustlers and deserve a decent life as well since they are doing developmental things like lawful businesses. Locals who decide to take laws into their hands will face the wrath of the law either,” Okot added.
