Agago Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) Cosmas James Okidi has rallied SACCO Group leaders in the district to support and engage their subordinates into embracing government’s poverty eradication programs like Emyooga and Parish Development Model.
To say this, Mr Okidi was meeting the community group leaders under Emyooga project during a refresher training exercise on Monday.
The training was organised by Microfinance Centre Lira branch and it comprised of group leaders of 18 Saccos in Agago North Constituency. The purpose of the training was to orient SACCO leaders about the essence of Emyooga.
The DRDC urged the group leaders to support the government initiatives by following all the established guidelines for proper implementation.
While closing the two day training, Mr Okidi also stressed out the need to change the mindset of locals so that they can benefit fully from government programs.
“You should embrace the saving culture. This will help you to to improve your livelihoods at household level. I also urge you to practice commercial production instead of subsistence farming. Uganda can be self reliance if we the farmers embark on production of raw materials for our products such as sunflowers, maize, Cotton etc hence reducing dependency syndrome on foreign countries,” said Mr Okidi.
” And if we embrace and wholeheartedly support government programs like Parish Development Model, it will be last nail on poverty eradication in the country.”
