President Yoweri Museveni has eulogized the late Senior Counsel, Dr Joseph Byambara Byamugisha, as one of the greatest lawyers in Uganda who spent his time on earth fighting for the truth.
The Former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, who represented President Museveni during the requiem mass of the late Byamugisha at Christ the King Parish Kabale, said the deceased was a resourceful person with a sharp mind who never got tired to foster for peace in the country. Mbabazi who is also a former presidential candidate in 2016 said that Dr Byamugisha was a role model to other lawyers in the Uganda , adding that his services will forever be missed.
Dr Byamugisha, 78 succumbed to cancer of the prostate on Thursday at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, where he had been admitted for the last two weeks. Dr Byamugisha, trading as JB Byamugisha Advocates, rose to the limelight in 2001 and 2006 after President Museveni named him to be on his legal defense team to battle election petitions, when Dr Kizza Besigye of the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC challenged his presidential victory.
Dr Byamugisha is survived by five children, 14 grand children and one great grandchild.
