Former Minister without portfolio Hajj Abdul Nadduli has warned First Son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba to be careful while engaging in and speaking about political issues because not everybody in Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) likes him or his father President Yoweri Museveni.
Early this month, Lt Gen Muhoozi the Commander of UPDF Land Forces went on his Twitter handle and expressed readiness by the Ugandan army to take on and overthrow the military regime that recently took over the government of Guinea following a coup de-tat against President Alpha Conde.
“If our Commander in Chief gave us instructions it wouldn’t take UPDF a day to discipline mutinous troops like the ones in Guinea-Conakry.”
His statement caused alot of public debate as to why a senior serving officer would interfere in issues of another country. As a way of defending him, the army spokesperson Brig Flavia Byekwaso came out and said that he has a right to speak provided is not speaking for the army.
However, during an interview on ‘TMO’, a local media YouTube channel last week, Nadduli, a former bush war fighter warned that as long as Gen Muhoozi is still a serving officer, he must not involve himself in such sensitive issues because they might bring problems to Uganda as a whole. He also cautioned him that being the First Son does not permit him to speak on issues beyond his office.
“Alpha Conde was not removed by his son, it was his escort or a serving officer, therefore this can also happen here. So the satisfaction the first son has gotten from his father is the result as to why he is speaking such. Does he want to confirm that within the UPDF there are no officers who don’t like Museveni? And since he is an officer he must distance himself from political issues especially those outside Uganda.”
Nadduli added that such speeches are very dangerous and if he was not from the first family, he would be demoted because he has already gotten wild into politics.
“Secondly Uganda is not the leadership of Africa, if we keep on doing this we are going to wage wars on many countries which will increase poverty levels in Uganda. Officers in the army must not think that they are expendables, anything can happen.”
The former Luwero LC5 chairman also asked President Museveni to stop Gen Muhoozi’s bootlickers who are fronting him as the next president because it creates a poor image of his 35 leadership.
“Why would you front a tribemate yet when others do the same you arrest them and call the sectarians? That is why people are hating Museveni and if he is not careful his son is already hated indirectly. So, do you want to tell us that now Uganda is an empire for a father and a son to rule no other tribes?” he wondered.
