Outgoing Works and Transport Minister, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, his daughter and driver were on Tuesday morning shot along Kisota road, in Kisaasi.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place a few minutes to 9am.
The former Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Police Chief survived with bullets in his left arm and chest.
The assailants, four in number were riding on two black motorcycles before spraying bullets to Gen Katumba’s car.
The daughter and the driver have been confirmed dead whereas Gen. Katumba was rushed to Medipal International hospital in Kampala for treatment. The doctors managed to remove four bullets from his body and he is currently responding to treatment.
The four star general’s daughter has been identified as Brenda Nantongo and the slain driver is called Haruna Kayondo.
Brenda has been Gen Katumba’s last born and she had just returned from USA a few months ago where she had been studying.
Gen Katumba and his daughter were reportedly heading for the burial ceremony of their close relative in Najjanankumbi along Entebbe road.
Moments before the incident happened, Gen Katumba had tweeted:
“I wish you a month of Happiness, Success, Peace, Prosperity, Good Health, and Wealth. Remember to social distance, sanitize, and wash your hands regularly.#STAYSAFEUG #COVID19UG.”
