With Uganda’s growing middle-class picking interest in pets, a place for their treats has been missing on the shopping menu of Kampala.
Businessman Rajiv Ruparelia’s wife, Naiya, has seen an opportunity and will this weekend open doors to her new business in the dog and other pets’ products.
Ms. Naiya Ruparelia is opening Kaya’s Kitchen in Kampala’s upscale suburb, Kololo, one of the hubs for pet owners. Kaya’s Kitchen will see pet owners find a one-stop shopping centre for their pets’ care.
The Ruparelia family are serial entrepreneurs, and Naiya seeing a gap in the dog care industry is not surprising. There are not statistics pointing to the number of pets in Uganda, however recent years have seen more people buying especially dogs as pets.
Kaya’s Kitchen is a retail outlet for organic, specialty pet food.
The launch will take place along the grand opening of partners Ark Organics shop at the Explorer’s Hub at Plot 4 Lower Kololo Terrace Road.
“Pet parents can stop at the store and shop for pet treats, food, grooming products, pet accessories and toys.”
