The territorial Police at Wakiso are investigating a murder by shooting of Robert Kagolo, a journalist who has been an employee of Uganda Broadcasting Corperation (UBC) that took place at Bugembejembe village in Wakiso , on Thursday at around 8pm .
Kagolo, a former president of Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) has been working for Star FM, a radio station under the national broadcaster.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire alleges that while Kagolo was returning from the village after the brother’s s burial , he hurriedly entered the late’s home which was being guarded by LDU personnel after he suspected that some people were following him and he knocked the gate with his motor vehicle while gaining entrance .
“It is from there that a dis agreement between him and two LDU personnel who were guarding the home started , unfortunately the disagreement led to a shooting of which the circumstances are being investigated , the victim was later rushed to St.Joseph Hospital Wakiso where he succumbed to the injuries sustained,”Owoyesigire said in a statement on Friday.
The shooter has been identified as Mamuli Rashid.
” And upon getting the information , a joint team of Police and LDU command responded to the scene and managed to arrest Rahid and his colleague,” Owoyesigire added.
“Kagolo’s body is yet to be conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for Postmortem. Investigations into the matter are ongoing and you will be updated accordingly.”
