President Yoweri Museveni has expressed happiness that Uganda will soon produce fertilizers, steel, glass and cement when the Tororo Municipality-based Uganda Sukulu Comprehensive Industrial Development Project becomes fully operational.
“I am pleased to note that we shall be able to produce fertilizers, steel, glass and cement. It is a fully integrated project. You must take care of the environment during your work,” he said. He directed officials of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals to ensure that the company that is developing that industrial establishment if fully facilitated in its work. He also sounded a strong warning that he will not tolerate any delays in that project.
The President was receiving a progress report of the Tororo Municipality-based Uganda Sukulu Comprehensive Industrial Development Project. The report was presented to him at State House, Entebbe yesterday by a Chinese delegation led by the Director of the Chinese Guangzhou Dongsong Energy Group (U) Co. Ltd., Mr. Lv Weidong.
Mr. Museveni called on the officials of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals to avail sand for the manufacture of glass to the Chinese investors. He thanked the investors for the good job in Uganda. He also urged them to establish a marble factory in Karamoja Sub-Region and assured them of the NRM Government support to them in the proposed Karamoja venture.
During the meeting, President Museveni, in the presence of the Minister of Energy and Minerals, Hon. Irene Muloni and that of Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Matia Kasaija, launched the Uganda National Investment Network website. The platform promotes Chinese projects already operational in Uganda and those in the pipeline.
The Director of the Chinese Guangzhou Energy Group (U) Co. Ltd, Mr. Lv Weidong, expressed interest in the development of the Uganda Oil Refinery project. Under the proposal, the Uganda Petro-Chemical Industrial Park Project is set to produce a wide range of finished products that include petrol, diesel and silicon. Silicon is used in the manufacture of solar panels. He revealed that the first bag of fertilizers would be produced before the end of 2017.
