The move to bail out cash strapped companies at a tune of sh1.3 trillion, has drawn angry protests from members of the public.
David Mutebi, the Buikwe South MP, says the companies should prove their contributions towards the economy including employment of Ugandans and tax compliance.
Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the Kira Municipality MP, says it is not a bad idea to help the companies as long as government tables the matter before Parliament with genuine reasons as to why taxpayers’ money should be spent on them.
Elijah Okupa, the Kasilo County MP says the proprietors of the company are known to lead a posh lifestyle who should be left to save themselves.
Onesmus Twinamatsiko, the Bugangaizi East MP, says some of the individuals have several buildings in the country, which they should sell off to clear their debts.
