17 prisoners from Katojo Prison have been involved in deadly car accident along Fort Portal- Kamwenge Road.
The accident happened on Wednesday as the prisoners were being transported from Katojo Prison to Gweri, Karambi Sub County to work on a farm belonging to Paul Kasende, the Director Private Sector Development and Consultancy Centre, Fort Portal branch.
All the 17 inmates survived with several injuries and they were taken to Fort Portal Referral Hospital for treatment.
According to an eye witness, Kasende who was driving the pickup, registration number UAE 2013Y that was transporting the inmates, had parked on the roadside when a driver of a truck, registration number UAY 699Q belonging to China Railway Seventh Group, a company constructing the Fort Portal -Kamwenge Road, rammed into the pickup, injuring the prisoners and a prison warder.
