Lead by the Medical interns President Dr. Lubega Robert, the medical interns at Mulago hospital have laid down their working tools due to unpaid allowances worth shs989,760,000.

This was revealed by the medical interns in a press conference at Mulago guest house in Kampala.

Lubega said that as medical interns, they are human beings with human rights hence need to be considered.

“We need to pay rent, move daily, eat, and also have children to take care of” Said Lubega.

He added that 61 members have not received their allowances ever since November 2017 summing to shs58,560,000  yet the whole number of medical interns in the country of 970 people demand a total of shs931,200,000.

“A hungry doctor is very dangerous to the community” Added Lubega.  He continued to say that they engaged with the ministry of health but no positive result was achieved yet they have daily expenditures to meet.

According to these doctors, a demand of money onto their accounts, an internship policy as well as availing of hospital equipment must be met by the government to enable them get back to work.
