No nonsense Rwandan president Paul Kagame on Tuesday sacked his health Minister over what commentators call corruption scandals in her ministry.

The sacking letter for Dr Agnès Binagwaho was signed by the Prime Minister. She has been minister for five years but her term has been ridden with scandals.

“In accordance with the Constitution as amended to date, specifically article 116, President Paul Kagame has removed from cabinet Dr Agnès Binagwaho,” reads the letter signed by Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi.

Dr Binagwaho a former Permanent Secretary in the same ministry, failed to control scandals over the years, including the latest rise in malaria cases and mismanagement of health facilities.

Malaria rise was blamed on the bad procurement deal of 3 million substandard mosquito nets which cost the country more than $15m in 2013.

The Auditor General, Mr Obadiah Biraro, in his 2015 report, also singled out the health ministry and its linked institution Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC) as some of the government bodies with gross mismanagement of resources.
