President Yoweri Museveni has assured a delegation of over 200 National Resistance Movement (NRM) Entebbe Municipality cadres that security has been restored in their area following a recent spate of murder incidents.

The President made the remarks last night at a dinner that he hosted in their honour at State House, Entebbe. Hon. Rose Tumusiime, who is the Entebbe Woman Member of Parliament, led the delegation.

“During the recent murder incidents in Entebbe, there was a challenge to the Police using old methods of fighting crime. Plans are underway to install cameras in towns, on the roads and other important areas. This will go a long way towards fighting the criminals. We have arrested the criminals involved in these incidents,” he said.

He revealed that since the insecurity has been eliminated, the Government will improve the infrastructure. He said Entebbe International Airport is already being modernized and that plans are in progress for the revival of Uganda Airlines. He further informed his guests that the water supply would be improved to ensure hygiene.

The President disclosed that the next target is to work on social services such as education and health. He expressed happiness that the Movement Government has succeeded in the upgrading of Entebbe Government hospital adding that the hospital personnel involved in the theft of medical drugs have been apprehended.

Regarding production, President Museveni urged the people of Entebbe Municipality to embark on peri-urban agriculture. He reminded them that modern agriculture and livestock management is a sure way towards the eradication of household poverty. He, therefore, advised them to engage in the zero grazing of cows, keeping poultry, involvement in fish farming, mushroom growing and piggery for those who are not Muslims. He assured the leaders that the Movement Government would assist them in the promotion of fish farming.

Mr. Museveni tasked the leaders of Entebbe to draw up mini-plans with the goal of propelling wananchi out of household poverty. He gave assurances that Government is ready to facilitate the implementation of poverty-fighting programmes. He suggested that the areas of Kasenyi and Gunda areas be set aside for the establishment of industrial parks with emphasis on the promotion of small scale/artisan industries. He observed that the move would be a sure way of enabling artisans who are engaged in making furniture and other small-scale industries that are currently sited on roadsides in Kampala and Najera, to be in one place.

President Museveni said that people in Uganda could generate income through modern agriculture, industries, services and Information Communication Technology (ICT). He encouraged them to follow up the business processing outsourcing that he noted provides good employment opportunities for the youth.

Mr. Museveni emphasized that every home must ensure food security and have income generating projects. He disclosed that he is ready to assist Entebbe residents in the fight against poverty the way he did with the people of neighbouring his ranch in Kisozi, Gomba district. He pledged a donation of Shs.50 million towards boosting the operations of Entebbe Cadres’ Savings and Credit Organization (SACCO).

 

Entebbe Woman MP, Hon. Rose Tumusiime, saluted President Museveni for leading Uganda in peace. She also thanked him for deploying the UPDF on Lake Victoria to control illegal fishing activities adding that the decision has made a positive impact on the fishing industry.

Entebbe NRM Chairman, Mr. Steven Kabuye, while thanking the President for the invitation, praised God for the life of Mr. Museveni noting that Uganda has been blessed with a gift of a humble leader in the person of President Museveni. He revealed that the expansion of Entebbe International Airport is benefiting the residents in a big way.
