Social critic Frank Malingumu Gashumba’s arrest on Monday by the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) came as a surprise to a number of Ugandans.

On Tuesday, he was paraded before the media at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Mbuya and while addressing the members of the press, Defence Deputy Spokesperson Lt. Col Deo Akiiki said Gashumba is under investigation after he was found in possession of fake stamps for different government organizations as well as drugs including marijuana and cocaine.

Gashumba is a strong government critic and he uses his big social media following to lambaste President Yoweri Museveni and a number of government officials.

He was born in 1974 in Villa Maria,Masaka district to parents of Rwandese origin.

He attended St Francis Primary School, before moving to Aga Khan Senior Secondary, Masaka. In 1996 he graduated from Nkumba University where he attained a bachelors degree in Business Administration.

Gashumba spent much of his early life in Masaka before moving to Kampala in the early 90s, where he cut into Kampala’s Masaka clique, famous for its success stories. Between 1996 and 1998, Gashumba worked for the Latter Day Saints Church, before lifting the lid on his entrepreneurship journey in 1997.

The motor mouth social analyst is a firm believer in hard work and has on several occasions, lashed out at the showy life of some Ugandans, saying: “Rich people stay rich by living like they are broke and broke people stay broke by living like they are billionaires.”

Gashumba is much remembered for the good heart he exhibited in 2006 when he saved Aisha Nabukeera who was severely burnt by her step mother. He rescued her, treated her and took her in as her daughter. Though some well wishers contributed to her well being ,if it was not for Gashumba the tortured girl would be nowhere.
However, some people accuse Gashumba to have used Nabukeera’s situation to solicit money from people which after he used to buy a Benz (car). But the self made activist says by the time he found Nabukeera, he already had the Benz.

He is the chairman of Mali Group of Companies, with a number of consortium of companies which include, Mali Mixed Farm, the agriculture arm, Sarafina Skills Services, which places job seekers in oversees employment and Sarafina Safaris, a transport and tours and travel firm. He also owns an NGO known as Ssimuka Uganda which aims at awakening and changing the mindset of Ugandans.

Gashumba is one of the best social, political analysts in the country simply because he speaks his mind and according to him, he only knows only two realistic social and political analysts in the country; that’s the former president Yoweri Museveni’s spokesperson, Tamale Mirundi and him (Gashumba).

He is a single father with two daughters who include; Sheila Gashumba who is a city socialite and Catherine Gashumba.
