Uganda Prison Authorities have defied the court’s order to provide a private cook to the jailed king of Rwenzururu kingdom, Charles Wesley Mumbere citing that they cannot allow an outsider into the prison premises.
On Wednesday this week, the court ordered the authorities to provide a private cook and a small fridge to Mumbere saying that the remanded king is entitled to these privileges because he suffers from hypertension and diabetes.
However, Uganda prison has come out to defy the order saying that an outsider cannot be allowed in prison to prepare the 64 year old’s meals but for the fridge its readily available though it will not be placed in Mumbere’s cell because the cell where Mumbere is contained does not have a socket.
Yesterday, while appearing on NBS TV on one of the shows, Frank Baine said that the king will be treated like other inmates since in the prison they are all equal and they have already baptized him with a number plus a yellow suit.
Mumbere who is facing 41 charges including treason, murder, terrorism, aggravated robbery among others was arrested last month after security forces raided his palace in the western Ugandan district of Kasese. More than 100 people lost their lives in the clashes.
